Laurabel Mba is an award-winning equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism (EDI-AR) consultant, speaker, writer, and community leader based in Newfoundland and Labrador. She is the founder and principal consultant of Laurabel Mba Consulting, a firm known for making anti-racism and DEIB work practical, accessible, and action-oriented for organizations across Canada.
In 2025, Laurabel made history as the first Black woman to appear on a provincial election ballot in Newfoundland and Labrador, marking a significant milestone in the province’s political history. Her experience running for office deepened her work on power, leadership, public accountability, and what it means to navigate systems that were never designed with Black women in mind.
Laurabel is a sought-after keynote speaker and facilitator, delivering impactful sessions on anti-racism, inclusive leadership, organizational culture, and equity-driven strategy for public, private, and non-profit organizations. Her approach blends lived experience, critical analysis, and practical tools that move organizations beyond performative commitments toward real, measurable change.
Her leadership and impact have been widely recognized. In 2024, Laurabel was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by WXN and was the recipient of the WXN Canadian Tire Community Impact Award. She is also the 2024 Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) Entrepreneur of the Year, a recipient of the Aidan Maloney Award, and the St. John’s Regatta Media Person of the Year. She has been nominated for the YWCA St. John’s Circle of Distinction and the St. John’s Board of Trade Award, and is a nominee of the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award in recognition of her contributions to equity and human rights in the province.
In addition to her consulting work, Laurabel is a contributing writer, media host, and frequent panelist who uses storytelling and public dialogue to challenge dominant narratives and center marginalized voices. She works closely with governments, educational institutions, community organizations, and employers to design programming that reflects the realities of Black, racialized, newcomer, and equity-seeking communities.
Across all of her work, Laurabel is known for her clarity, courage, and ability to hold space for honest conversations while driving tangible outcomes. Her mission remains consistent: to help individuals and institutions build cultures rooted in equity, accountability, and collective care—while ensuring that those most impacted by inequity are not just included, but empowered to lead.
